The purpose of this guide is to present informational and resource related topics to players of Rift to be able to play in any scenario in Rift using dominating soul Archon, with a mixture of Chloromancer and a support third off soul that is chosen to enhance the previous two.

The player must provide the support buffs that Archon normally provides while also generating as many raid heals and possible spot target heals as possible. When the others are not a priority they then are able to do whatever damage they can to boost total outgoing raid Damage.

In this guide there are several different variations covered:

The Archon – Chloromancer

Archon… “When not hurling volcanic bombs and granite missiles, the Archon is busy siphoning opponents’ strength and vitality, converting it to buffs for self and party. The Archon is known for its raid friendly buffs that seem to surpass every other class and make Archon the king of support roles’

The basic premise of this build is built around the Archon soul taking all 61 points in order to secure Flaring Power,   it makes these builds some  of the best support choices in the game and that makes it the most sought after support role there is.

If you have a mage you should have at least one, if not multiple Archon builds as you can be assured you will be asked to run it. In addition any truly “Total Mage” should know how to play damage dealer, support, healing and in my opinion (yet definitely not everyone)  tank to at least a functional level.

Most raids, specifically progression based raiding and raiding guilds, will require that the support slot is filled by an Archon. This has had a trickle down effect and now —

>>>

– – even simpler less challenging content has group leaders putting together parties that demand an Archon. such as Tartaric Depths Easy.

This is often both a blessing and a burden for mages as they have relatively secure class stability for raid spots however it quite often  becomes a chore to run the cookie cutter specific build asked by the raid leader and to be criticized as often happens if something is not done perfectly.

There are many different roles that Archon can perform. It should have three basic requirements: provided support buffs, Focus on whatever the first off soul role is in between Archon cool downs, and third to do as much damage as possible.  The focus of the builds in this guide is on healing as its first off soul, which for mage would be Chloromancer or Frostkeeper as a replacement for this..

The Chloromancer soul is used for the innate healing abilities that are the essential basis for a its basic design. After choosing eight points in it the mage is able to use  Lifegiving Veil, which is the key to raid heals, and offers passive healing to the raid relative to the amount and type of damage done.  At eleven points they may choose Lifebound Veiland its partner Synthesis which focuses more on the mage healing one person instead of the entire raid.

>>>

Some of the builds here will not take Synthesis and concentrate on just raid healing where they receive highest benefits. The mage will not have q combat rez nor will they have cooldowns or big group heals on a long cooldown timer. Almost all of the healing they do has to come from the Lifegiving Veil through the use of damage.

While these builds may be attempted at any time, it is highly suggested that you wait until you get at least your first eternal weapon upgrade. The reason is that when you cast a primary bolt the next thee healing or damage spells have there numbers adjusted by 30000 which per heal quite an increase.

The other requirement is  more just a suggestion but should be followed by normal protocol anyway.  The Diviner’s Crystal is a crystal able to cause an additional 3000 damage or healing depending on you  equipment.

Chloromancer… Calling upon the great forces of nature, Chloromancers can use their powers to lash enemies and mend entire groups. The amount of healing forced from nature is determined by how much restoration to it you deal with damage to its enemies and life blood. This restoration power can be focused into one strong ally or blow over quite a few allies.

3.[Build A.] Warlock Variant: 61/15/0

This Build is on Magelo or you can click the image to the left for a more enlarged view.

This is the build that puts all 15 points into Chloromancer, the maximum allowed with 61 points. It offers Natural Conversion and a point taken into Radiant Spores effectiveness. If there are no other mage healers in your raid you could change one of these out so that you take a point into Synthesis so that you have some tank based heals. If not this is purely a raid healing spec.

Our variant of this features Warlock, which gives you a simple primary bolt to build off of and also Legendary Life Leech which restores health to the mage as well as doing damage. The legendary allows chance for it to be automatically refreshed by casting an off soul ability, which is  any other spell other than these two.

3.[Build B.]  Stormcaller Variant: 61/9/6

This Build is on Magelo or you can click the image to the left for a more enlarged view.

This is a higher damage version build of the various ArchonChloromancer builds available and sacrifices Natural Conversion and more importantly Lifebound Veil which is  the tank healing buff. In exchange the mage gains an increase in overall spell power along with several spells and one in particular called Thunder Shock which will trigger Lifegiving Veil (the raid healing buff). This will add up some relatively decent damage for a class that provides healing support to the raid.

When the raid is attempting to min-max damage and healing at the same time the difficulty of this spec, rises more sharply than many other builds. If it is not used correctly the healing per second will drop to well below that of a much easier soul and most likely your damage as well as the raids damage may suffer. However when played by a competent, educated and informed mage this build has great opportunity for big bursts.

3.[Build C]  Elementalist Variant: 61/11/4

This Build is on Magelo or you can click the image to the left for a more enlarged view.

This build takes the 71 Archon and mixes the damage and healing portion of it almost evenly, with a tad more of the power going to heals, hence the 11 points into Chloromaster. This particular build focuses on raid healing and not a single target tank support as it does nto come with Synthesis¹.

Damage is build up from the typical Archon abilities as well as using Legendary elemental Forces which is a quick way to add additional damage without triggering a global cooldown.

¹One point could be removed from Nature’s Corrosion to change this into a single target tank healing spec build instead of the raid healing.

3. Karuul Alert’s for The Build

About Karuul Alerts

Karuul Alerts are used for an addon specifically made for Rift with the name Karuul Alerts, also abbreviated as K-Alerts. We highly suggest that you utilize this or a similar addon  such as Gadgets. We use Karuul Alerts because of the ease with which the entire alert can be transferred between clients using import and or the export functions as well as sharing alerts directly within Rift itself. If you need assistance with obtaining this addon or how to import the following text you can see our guide on implementing macros.

What is provided after this is an example used by a player  who has actually played this role and found it to be helpful to them. It works for them, but may not work for you because play styles can vary so widely. Please consider this a starting point for customizing your own preferred layout.

Builds and Variants Information

Breakdown of Builds

The following sections contain all the information you need to set up a build. You may notice that the builds are broken up into two sections. One has a screenshot in it and the other is mostly just a table of data.  They include the following information with some explanations if you are new to setting up a build or just have some questions.

Part One of Build

  • Screenshot of Build: A Screenshot of the build taken directly from Rift. It was taken of the build window and uploaded. You can click on this to view a larger image and to copy the  spec into your own build
  • Magelo Link  After the screenshot is a link to Magelo which hosts its own Rift style soul tool that lets you choose and examine builds just like in Rift  The great thing is these builds can be publicly shared with anyone, although currently they do not support which Legendary Abilities are in a build.
  • Right Hand Side: A description of the build and its strengths and possible weaknesses compared to other builds is detailed

Part Two of Build

  • Legendary Selection A Listing of the  Legendary abilities uses in the build. There may be alternates so refer to each tab for the soul
  • Mastery Selection A selection of which mastery abilities were chose. Check here for any alternate possibilities
  • Macros A direct link to the macros for this build or a direct copy to clipboard button
  • Buffs to Use  A listing of general full time buffs that should be applied before a boss for enemy pull
  • Single Target Notes  Notes on single target rotations or any information that is separate
  • Area of Effect Notes Notes on area of effect rotations or any information that is separate
  • Notes  General Notes about this class
  • Other Abilities  Other abilities or spells that are specialized or prized for this build.
